Pregnant Kastor will miss New York City marathon

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. women's marathon record-holder Deena Kastor will miss November's New York City Marathon as she is pregnant, she said Thursday.

The child, which will be Kastor's first, is due in March, her management company and the New York Road Runners said in a joint announcement.

"To hear this news was really exciting," said the 37-year-old Kastor, the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist.

"As soon as we heard the news, I stopped hard workouts. I don't look pregnant yet but I hear it seems to happen overnight."

Kastor also won the 2006 London marathon.
